Yu Yue studied at the Civil Aviation University of China and was selected in early 2025 among the top pilots for retraining on the new C919 aircraft. The narrow-body jet, developed by the Chinese corporation Comac, has been operating regular domestic flights since May 2023. Yu said she "did not hesitate for a second" when offered to transition to the new aircraft type.
This appointment marks an important milestone in promoting gender equality in Chinese aviation and may encourage greater female representation in piloting roles in the future.
