A Chinese zoo shut down after hiding the death of a tiger cub
In Puyang city, Henan province, authorities ordered the closure of a private zoo following the concealment of the death of an Amur tiger cub named Niuannuan. Staff deceived viewers by faking live streams and fraudulently soliciting donations.

The tiger cub, a major online symbol of the zoo, died in January from panleukopenia. However, the administration did not report the death immediately, instead substituting another cub during live streams and airing pre-recorded videos. This behavior raised suspicion among loyal viewers. On February 4th, a video apology was released confirming the cub’s death.
The zoo director has been suspended, and an investigation is underway. This incident may lead to tighter regulation of private zoos and online live streaming in China in the near future.
