Man detained in Kythrea, Cyprus, after fire burns 25 acres
A 38-year-old man was detained in Kythrea, in the occupied part of Cyprus, after a fire burned about 25 acres of land. According to Cyprus Mail, the fire got out of control after the man set dry grass alight in his garden.
Circumstances of the fire
The publication, citing Kibris Postasi, reported that the fire broke out at around 11:00 on Saturday. According to this information, the man set fire to a pile of dry grass without taking proper safety precautions.

Police said the flames spread from the garden to a nearby streambed. The fire damaged dry grass, shrubs, reeds and olive trees.
Firefighting efforts
The fire was brought under control after a large-scale operation involving police, fire units, military personnel and local residents. Police confirmed that the fire had already been extinguished, but cooling operations continue in the affected area to prevent it from reigniting.
