Balochistan parties call for dialogue amid deteriorating security
In Quetta, Pakistan, representatives of Balochistan’s political parties expressed serious concern at a multiparty conference over the deteriorating security and law-and-order situation in the province. The meeting was chaired by National Party president and former Balochistan chief minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch.
Concerns over the situation in the province
Conference participants said that the law-and-order situation in Balochistan is worsening over time. In their view, despite this, the authorities have not taken serious and effective measures to resolve the province’s escalating constitutional, economic and security problems.
According to Dawn, the conference was attended, among others, by the head of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam’s Balochistan chapter, Senator Maulana Abdul Wasay; the president of Awami National Party’s Balochistan chapter, Asghar Khan Achakzai; the provincial president of Pashtunkhwa National Awami Party, Nasrullah Zairay; Balochistan National Party representative Musa Baloch; Abdul Khaliq Hazara of the Hazara Democratic Party; and the provincial president of the National Democratic Movement, Ahmad Jan.

Joint strategy and political dialogue
Party representatives also discussed the problems facing the province’s residents, the controversial mines and minerals bill, constitutional and public control over Balochistan’s resources, political and democratic rights, as well as economic challenges.
The participants continued consultations on a joint strategy that could help political forces respond to existing challenges and protect the province’s shared interests. They stressed that longstanding problems remain unresolved and contribute to the current crisis. The participants also stated that the use of force is not a solution to Balochistan’s problems and called for restoring public trust in the state through political dialogue involving leaders trusted by the people.
