In Colombia, former adult film actress Amaranta Hank has been elected to the Senate
In Colombia, 33-year-old Deisy Alejandra Omana Ortiz, who previously worked in the adult film industry under the stage name Amaranta Hank, has been elected to the Senate.
She was sworn in as a senator representing the left-wing political coalition “Historic Pact.”
Ortiz built her campaign around defending the rights of adult film industry workers. She advocates for government regulation of the industry and for granting its workers the same labor rights as workers in other sectors.
Before her political career, Ortiz worked as a journalist and later appeared in adult films for about two years. According to her, safety concerns and poor working conditions prompted her to leave the industry.
In addition to defending the rights of sex workers, the newly elected senator also announced her intention to promote mental health reforms and strengthen measures to prevent sexual violence.
