The Kremlin has confirmed a meeting between Putin and former German Chancellor Schröder
The Kremlin announced that Vladimir Putin held a private meeting with former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder in Moscow. The talks took place in a one-on-one format.
According to Ushakov, the conversation between Putin and Schröder took place in Moscow, without the participation of other individuals.
“The conversation was friendly; it took place in a one-on-one, face-to-face format. To be honest, I don’t know the details. It took place in Moscow, at the Kremlin,” he said.
The adviser also described the meeting as “good,” but did not disclose any details of the talks.
Gerhard Schröder, the former leader of Germany’s Social Democratic Party and former chancellor of Germany, has long maintained ties with Russia’s political and energy sectors.
In particular, he continued to cooperate with Russian energy companies even after the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
According to media reports, the 82-year-old politician remains personally close to Putin and regularly visits Russia.
This was reported by Yuri Ushakov, an adviser to the Russian leader.
Earlier, the new leader of Germany’s ruling Social Democratic Party (SPD), Matthias Mersch, stated that he is ready to reconcile with former Chancellor Gerhard Schröder. He was ostracized by the party for numerous statements in support of Putin following the start of Russian aggression.
