The Kremlin stated that it will hold talks with Rubio at the UN regarding Ukraine
The Russian side hopes to hold a meeting between the Russian and U.S. foreign ministers in New York during the UN General Assembly. Moscow has stated that the situation surrounding Ukraine will be among the main issues on the agenda.
This was announced by Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.
According to her, a meeting between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio during the UN General Assembly in New York is currently being discussed. The situation in Ukraine will be among the key topics of Lavrov’s international talks during the UN General Assembly.
Thus, if the meeting between Lavrov and Rubio takes place, the topic of Ukraine could become one of the central issues during their conversation.
However, a spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry has not reported any final agreements regarding the meeting between Lavrov and Rubio.
As a reminder, in early September, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that a roadmap for resuming negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, mediated by Washington, could be developed within the next few weeks.
U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation on September 8 that lasted exactly one hour. The parties discussed the results of the trip by U.S. President’s Special Envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Kyiv and Moscow, assessing the visit’s outcomes positively and agreeing to continue working in this direction.
Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held talks in Kyiv with representatives of the U.S. President, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
