In Qusra on the West Bank, 15 Palestinians are without water and electricity

In the Ras al-Ain area of the Palestinian town of Qusra, south of Nablus in the West Bank, 15 people, including two children, have been trapped in three houses for a second week. According to Al Jazeera English, the families are surrounded by armed Israeli settlers and military units and have no access to food, water, or electricity.

The UN stated that residents remain in their homes in a state of fear, unable to meet their basic needs and without access to water and electricity. On Sunday, according to Al Jazeera, the Israeli military stopped a UNICEF convoy that was attempting to deliver aid to the families. Two vehicles carrying food were allowed to pass, but the military did not let a water tanker through and removed it from the residential area.

The day before, settlers attacked municipal workers and a bulldozer that had arrived to repair utilities, the publication reports. Mayor Kusra Abdel Azim Wadi told Al Jazeera that they were unable to restore water and electricity to the three blocked homes.

According to the publication, the Israeli army has converted one of the houses at the top of the hill into a military barracks and declared the area a closed military zone. At the same time, Al Jazeera reports that the military has failed to comply with nine orders to evacuate the outpost on the western outskirts of Kusra, from which settlers operate.

Mustafa Barghouti, secretary-general of the Palestinian National Initiative, called the blockade an attempt to seize land and displace residents. Erika Guevara-Rosas, Senior Director of Research, Advocacy, Policy, and Campaigns at Amnesty International, stated that, in her assessment, the violence perpetrated by settlers is supported by the State of Israel. The Palestinian Commission for Resistance to the Wall and Settlements reported that since October 2023, settlers have established more than 300 outposts, and the Israeli government has advanced plans for 104 new settlements.
