Amazon plane overruns runway in Miami: at least five dead
In the United States, a Prime Air cargo plane for Amazon overran the runway at Miami International Airport, crashed into several vehicles and caught fire. At least five people were killed and another five were injured, France 24 reports, citing local authorities.
The plane arrived from San Juan
The accident occurred on Sunday at around 2:00 p.m. after the plane arrived from San Juan, Puerto Rico. According to Miami-Dade County officials, three of the injured are in critical condition, while two others were hospitalized with less severe injuries.
Miami-Dade County Fire Rescue Chief Ray Jadallah said that some people were trapped in vehicles. The pilot and co-pilot were also unable to get out of the plane. Several hours after the crash, rescuers were still working to contain a fuel leak.

Crash investigation
More than 60 Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units arrived at the scene. They found the plane engulfed in flames, fought the fire and assessed the condition of the victims. According to images from the scene, the plane came to a stop near a road beside two trucks and was resting on its fuselage.
The flight was operated by North Carolina-based cargo airline 21 Air using a Boeing 767 converted from a passenger aircraft to a cargo plane in 2015. Following the crash, about 250 flights at the airport were delayed. The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board will send a team to Miami to investigate the crash. Miami Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz said there was no apparent threat to public safety after the incident.
