UAE President Sheikh Mohamed to visit Germany for cooperation talks
UAE President Sheikh Mohamed will begin a state visit to Germany on Wednesday, where he will hold talks with President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Chancellor Friedrich Merz. The sides plan to discuss deepening cooperation in the economic and development spheres, as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest.
As The National reports, a new stage in the two countries’ economic relations is linked to investment in the energy transition, advanced technologies and artificial intelligence. According to the UAE Foreign Ministry, bilateral non-oil trade reached $15.51 billion last year, 14.15% higher than $13.59 billion at the end of 2024. UAE exports to Germany increased by more than 50%, while re-exports from the Emirates rose by more than 17%.
Energy agreements
In February, Merz visited the UAE and met Sheikh Mohamed in Abu Dhabi. During the visit, the sides signed three agreements in the energy sector. Adnoc and RWE agreed to explore opportunities for supplying liquefied natural gas to Germany and other European markets.

Masdar and RWE also agreed to identify and implement investment opportunities in battery energy storage system projects in Germany. Covestro, Fertiglobe and Ta’ziz signed an agreement to explore opportunities in the ammonia and sustainable materials sectors.
Investment and technology
According to Berlin, the UAE is Germany’s most important economic partner among the six states of the Gulf Cooperation Council. About 2,000 German companies operate in the Emirates, using the country as a platform for working in markets across the Middle East, Africa and Asia.
In July 2025, the UAE-Germany Business Council was established for private-sector cooperation in advanced technology, energy, infrastructure and sustainable development. The 476-megawatt Baltic Eagle wind farm in Germany became fully operational in July 2025. Masdar holds a stake in it valued at €488 million.
