In Moldova, there is a proposal to imprison people for denying the crimes of the Stalinist regime
A bill has been introduced in the Moldovan parliament that would impose criminal liability for publicly denying, justifying, or condoning the crimes of the Stalinist regime, including the 1946–1947 famine and mass deportations.
The bill was submitted by a group of lawmakers from the ruling Action and Solidarity Party (PAS). The bill provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term ranging from six months to five years.
In addition, the authors of the initiative propose officially recognizing the 1946–1947 famine as a crime against humanity committed by the Soviet totalitarian regime.
The bill also calls for expanding the national memory policy, ensuring access to archival materials, developing state programs to preserve historical memory, and developing memorial infrastructure.
