Security has been stepped up in Moscow due to "booby-trapped insoles" intended for military personnel

On March 24 in Moscow, the police, the National Guard, and FSB officers were placed on high alert.

This was reported by the FSB’s Public Relations Center.

This was done to “prevent possible sabotage and terrorist acts” against critical infrastructure, officials, Russian Defense Ministry personnel, and law enforcement officers in the capital and the Moscow region.

According to the agency, a 32-year-old foreign national was detained who allegedly supplied disguised explosive devices from Poland on the orders of a Ukrainian “handler.” According to the FSB, the package contained 504 homemade explosive devices disguised as heated shoe insoles.

The devices allegedly had a TNT equivalent of 1.5 grams and were intended to “injure and sever the legs” of Russian military personnel upon attempted use.

Earlier, Vladimir Putin instructed the Russian FSB to strengthen security for high-ranking officials of the Russian Ministry of Defense and enterprises of Russia’s defense-industrial complex. Additional security measures are also to be extended to representatives of state and municipal authorities to protect them from potential threats.
