Moscow has imposed limits on the sale of gasoline and diesel

Moscow has imposed limits on the sale of gasoline and diesel

As of August 19, several gas station chains in Moscow have imposed restrictions on the sale of gasoline and diesel fuel. The shortage arose despite the Russian government’s decision to redirect fuel to the capital from other regions.

Gazprom Neft stated that a temporary limit of no more than 40 liters of fuel per vehicle is in effect at the company’s gas stations. The hotline advises customers to check directly with the specific station to see if they can purchase fuel in containers.

Tatneft reported that in Moscow, the limits are 50 liters of gasoline and 60 liters of diesel fuel per vehicle.

Problems with fuel availability in Moscow and the Moscow Region were already reported last week. Long lines formed at gas stations, and A-95 gasoline disappeared from the shelves at stations operated by Gazprom, Rosneft, Neftmagistrali, Teboil, and other chains.

As of the evening of August 18, A-95 gasoline was available at only one “Neftmagistrali” gas station in Moscow. Lukoil’s hotline reported that A-92, A-95, and diesel were available at only two stations in the capital, while another station was selling only diesel.

According to industry sources, Russian authorities are once again prioritizing fuel supplies to Moscow. To this end, fuel volumes are being redirected to the capital from regions in eastern Russia, which are simultaneously suffering increasingly from shortages.

The fuel crisis in Russia has intensified following a series of strikes on oil refineries. In August alone, according to the data provided, at least four major refineries were taken out of service.

As of August 16, gasoline or diesel was available at only 28.1% of Russian gas stations, compared to 41% a week earlier. Fuel availability declined the most in the Volgograd, Chelyabinsk, Orenburg, Voronezh, Samara, Penza, Saratov, Lipetsk, and Rostov regions, as well as in Tatarstan.

As a reminder, the Orsk Oil Refinery in the Orenburg region of the Russian Federation completely halted operations following an attack by Ukrainian drones.

Freight costs are rising in Russia due to the strikes on oil refineries, according to Reuters.

As a reminder, the Russian oil refinery “Orsknefteorgsintez” halted oil processing following a Ukrainian drone attack on August 11.

Earlier, the General Staff confirmed a strike on the TANECO oil refinery in Tatarstan.
