The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs has proposed implementing full control over online speech using artificial intelligence.
Lieutenant General Yuri Zhdanov of the Ministry of Internal Affairs made a statement to that effect.
According to him, the system should automatically detect “radical” and “extremist” content, as well as calls for “destructive activity.” He cited China as an example, where AI not only removes prohibited content but also passes information about violators on to law enforcement.
Zhdanov noted that such a model helps prevent the “distortion of social phenomena,” the spread of critical or pessimistic assessments, and “alarmist statements.”
The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs believes that the implementation of AI-based monitoring is necessary due to the spread of “anti-Russian content,” as well as a shortage of personnel in law enforcement agencies.
Earlier, the St. Petersburg authorities officially announced restrictions on mobile internet access, citing security measures as the reason.
Internet access was cut off in the Russian State Duma building amid widespread network restrictions in Moscow.
