NATO stated that the drone shot down in Romania was Russian
The drone that a Spanish F-18 fighter jet shot down in Romanian airspace was likely of Russian origin.
This was stated by U.S. Colonel Martin O’Donnell, a spokesperson for the Office of the Supreme Allied Commander Europe, as quoted by Reuters.
According to him, the Alliance remains on high alert and is ready to respond to any threats. At the same time, the details of the incident are still under investigation.
The Romanian Ministry of Defense has not yet officially confirmed the drone’s origin. Radar systems detected it entering the country’s airspace from the direction of Moldova—approximately 24 km from the city of Galați.
Romania has repeatedly reported violations of its airspace by Russian drones since the start of the full-scale war.
