NATO plans to discuss the situation on the battlefield in Ukraine
The NATO Military Committee will soon convene in a meeting of the Chiefs of Defense Staff to discuss in detail the progress of current missions, key activities, and operations led by the Alliance.
This was officially announced to journalists by the Alliance’s press service.
A special meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council, dedicated to the situation on the battlefield and continued support for Kyiv, will be a key item on the agenda.
The large-scale meeting, chaired by the Chairman of the Military Committee, Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, will be attended by representatives of the 32 NATO member countries.
Also joining the discussion will be the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), General Alexus Grinkevich, and the Supreme Allied Commander Transformation (SACT), Admiral Pierre Vandier.
During the first working session, General Grinkevich will brief participants on ways to further strengthen the Alliance’s deterrence and defense in the face of current global threats.
An important part of the meeting will be the coordination of actions between the military leadership and the political leadership of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
“Subsequently, the meeting participants will host NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte to discuss the Alliance’s political goals, priorities, and key milestones ahead of the NATO summit in Ankara,” the press service noted.
This will allow member states to align their positions before making strategic decisions.
Generals and admirals will pay special attention to modernizing internal procedures and accelerating the rearmament of national armies.
At the second official meeting, an updated overview of how NATO is developing its defense planning process will be presented.
The reform is necessary to “better integrate new technologies, innovations, and operational experience, accelerate capability development, and help allies achieve their capability goals more quickly, with a force structure better suited to the evolving nature of warfare.”
A key element for Ukrainian society will be the involvement of the leadership of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in direct dialogue with Western partners.
The third meeting will be the NATO-Ukraine Council, at which the NATO Council of Defense Ministers, together with the Chair of the EU Military Committee, will discuss with the Chief of the General Staff of Ukraine the current situation on the front lines in Ukraine and beyond, including the global implications of the war.
“The agenda will also include the issue of continued support for Ukraine from NATO and the EU,” the defense ministry emphasized.
