Nine Singaporeans sought in Nepal after floods — Channel NewsAsia
More than a week after devastating floods in Nepal, nine Singaporean citizens are still being sought. Singaporean authorities are working with local agencies to determine their whereabouts, Channel NewsAsia reports.
Searches have continued since August 27
On September 4, Singapore’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs Gan Siow Huang, who is also State Minister for Trade and Industry, said search-and-rescue teams in the affected areas were looking for missing people, including nine Singaporeans.
According to her, a crisis team from Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been working in Nepal since August 27 and liaising with local authorities. The ministry is also maintaining constant contact with the families of the missing people, providing them with updates on the search, assistance on the ground and other forms of support.
Gan Siow Huang thanked the Nepalese authorities for assisting the Singaporean crisis team during the search operation.

Singapore’s humanitarian assistance
On the same day, Singapore handed over humanitarian aid worth more than 560,000 Singapore dollars to Nepal. The package included medical supplies, DNA testing kits, personal protective equipment and specialized equipment for searching, recovering bodies and identifying victims of natural disasters.
Singapore Police, with support from the Home Team Science and Technology Agency and the Health Sciences Authority, are deploying specialists in disaster victim identification and aerial surveillance. They are being involved at Nepal’s request.
Separately, Singapore had earlier contributed 100,000 US dollars to support a public fundraising campaign by the Singapore Red Cross. According to the publication, the campaign has already raised more than 3 million Singapore dollars.
