In Nigeria, doctor waives woman’s debt after she lost her child — Premium Times Nigeria
In Nigeria’s Ogun State, a doctor voluntarily waived 300,000 Nigerian naira of an unpaid bill for a woman who lost her child after a Caesarean section. This was reported by Premium Times Nigeria, citing a statement from the state police.
Appeal to the police
Precious Matthew underwent a Caesarean section on June 30 at Longe Hospital Medical Centre in Sabo, Owode-Yewa. Her child died after the operation.
According to the police, the total medical bill amounted to 400,000 naira. The woman paid 100,000 naira, leaving an outstanding debt of 300,000 naira. Unable to pay this amount, she went to the Owode-Yewa police station for help on Sunday.

Commissioner’s intervention
Ogun State Commissioner of Police Olubode Ojajuni was informed about the situation. He contacted the doctor, Babanki Samuel, and asked him to take the woman’s circumstances into account.
After that, the doctor voluntarily declined to collect the entire unpaid amount. Police said this allowed the woman to leave the medical facility without further financial obligations. The command also thanked the doctor and called the case an example of resolving a situation through dialogue without confrontation.
