Five vehicles were involved in a road accident on Otedola Bridge in Lagos, Nigeria, during the daytime on September 16. According to Premium Times Nigeria, citing the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), no fatalities were recorded as a result of the crash.

The vehicles involved included a truck transporting a generator, a container truck, a loaded trailer, a white Honda vehicle and a Lexus. LASEMA reported that the container truck suffered a mechanical failure while moving, lost control and collided with three other vehicles. Another truck later crashed into the vehicles already involved in the accident.

Emergency services response

The LRT Tiger Squad unit based in the C3 area received a report of the accident at 13:18 and arrived at the scene about 10 minutes later. LASEMA rescuers, together with officers from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and police, secured the scene and managed traffic.

Paramedics provided assistance to those involved in the accident at the scene, after which they were taken to a trauma centre for further medical care. Police also stated that five people were rescued and that no deaths had been recorded at that time.

Vehicle removal

Private tow trucks and a crane were deployed to remove the damaged vehicles and reduce congestion. The recovery operation was ongoing, while emergency services worked to reopen the road to traffic.

LASEMA Permanent Secretary Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu urged drivers, particularly operators of heavy-duty vehicles, to service their vehicles regularly, follow road safety rules and exercise caution on major highways.
