Nigeria to discuss health policy implementation
The 2026 National Health Equity Conference is scheduled to take place in Abuja, Nigeria, on October 13–15. Policymakers, legislators, medical professionals and other participants will discuss how to reduce the gap between health policy and its implementation, Premium Times Nigeria reports.
The event is organized by OneBarrow International Limited. The conference will be held at the Nigeria National Merit Award House in the Maitama district. Its theme is “From Policy to Outcome: Coordinating Care as a Key Mechanism for Health Equity.”
Participants and coordination
Policymakers, legislators, health regulators, development partners, professional associations, healthcare workers, civil society organizations, patient groups and communities, academics, and private-sector representatives are expected to participate.
Minister of Health and Social Welfare Muhammad Pate is named as the chief host of the event. Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Health Services Amos Magaji and Minister of Education Tunji Alausa are expected as special guests of honor.

Yemi Ajao, CEO of OneBarrow International Limited, said participants will consider how to turn existing policies and framework documents into practical action at the federal, state and local levels. According to him, coordination among doctors, nurses, pharmacists, laboratory scientists, administrators and other specialists can reduce fragmentation in healthcare delivery.
Patient access and outcomes
The organizers also intend to discuss how insufficient coordination affects people who face barriers to accessing healthcare. Topics include the role of technology, data and citizen participation in increasing accountability, digital feedback mechanisms, transparency, access to health information and patients’ awareness of their rights.
Following the conference, the organizers plan to prepare a communiqué and a roadmap containing recommendations and participants’ commitments. These documents are intended to support policy implementation, track commitments and strengthen cooperation among stakeholders.
