11 people killed in attack in Nigeria’s Benue State
Four police officers and seven civilians were killed in an attack on the Ailamo community in the Logo Local Government Area of Benue State, Nigeria. The attack occurred on the evening of September 10 and lasted about seven hours, Premium Times Nigeria reports, citing the state police.
Clash with the attackers
According to the police, the attackers entered the community at approximately 6:12 p.m. They were confronted by officers from the mobile police unit, tactical teams and regular police. At dawn on September 11, the attackers retreated into the surrounding forest.
Police said the attackers suffered significant losses, but did not specify their number. During a search-and-rescue operation, the bodies of four slain law enforcement officers — Paul Ina, Mohammed Yusuf, Oge Ikechukwu and Ede Andrew — were found in nearby bushes. The bodies of seven dead civilians were taken to a morgue, according to the Benue State Police Command.
Ailamo resident Tyolumun Ugande told journalists that about 200 suspected armed herders entered the community. According to him, they shot residents and set houses on fire. Umishi Terwungva, secretary of the community security committee, also confirmed the attack and said that community elders, local residents and security personnel were among those killed.

Security reinforced
Initially, Ugande reported 12 deaths — four police officers and eight civilians. Police later confirmed that 11 people had been killed: four law enforcement officers and seven civilians.
Following the attack, additional tactical teams were deployed to Ailamo to reinforce existing security measures. Police said they were working with other security agencies to strengthen protection and continue operations in the affected area. Benue State Commissioner of Police Cletus Nwadiogbu expressed condolences to the families of the deceased civilians and the Ailamo community.
The police station in Ailamo was upgraded to divisional headquarters in August 2025 as part of the Benue State Police reorganization. At the time, law enforcement officials explained that the changes were needed to reduce the distance between police units and vulnerable communities.
