Nigeria’s First Lady Tinubu fulfills educational promise to 12-year-old artist
Nigeria’s First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has fulfilled her promise to provide 10 million naira for the education of 12-year-old Ogun State artist Morenikeji Ebunoluwa Joshua. The funds, provided as an education fund through the Ogun State government, are intended to support the boy’s studies through higher education, Premium Times Nigeria reports.
A promise after the portrait
On August 18, Tinubu saw a portrait that Joshua had painted and displayed during the launch of the National Food Bank programme for Nigeria’s South-West zone. The event took place at the Kuto Cultural Centre in Abeokuta. The First Lady invited the young artist onto the stage and immediately pledged 10 million naira for his future education.
Wahab Alawye-King, a representative of the Office of the First Lady for Strategy, presented the cheque to Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun. According to the governor, a separate account was opened for the funds to reserve them exclusively for Joshua’s educational needs.

Previous support for education
Abiodun also said that three years ago, he saw one of Joshua’s works at an exhibition in his office. After learning that the boy was in primary school, the governor awarded him a scholarship for primary and secondary education. Thanks to the new education fund, support for Joshua’s studies has been extended through higher education.
Alawye-King said that education should recognize and develop different types of talent rather than be limited to academic results. Joshua himself thanked Oluremi Tinubu for her support and urged other children to find their own interests and work on developing their abilities.
