Nigerian military ATR 42 with 32 people on board crashes — AeroTime
On October 5, 2026, an ATR 42 military aircraft of the Nigerian Air Force crashed near Igbokoda in the southwestern state of Ondo. The aircraft was conducting a routine mission on the Benin City–Lagos route. According to preliminary information from Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, there were 25 passengers and seven crew members on board.
Contact with the aircraft was lost in the morning
As AeroTime reports, air traffic controllers informed the minister that the military aircraft, bearing registration number NGR 931, disappeared at 09:13 local time. Attempts to contact it by radio were unsuccessful.
Keyamo later stated that the aircraft’s crash had been confirmed near a naval base in Igbokoda. The wreckage of the aircraft was found, after which a search and rescue operation began.

Search operation
The Nigerian Air Force confirmed the accident in a statement by its Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame. According to him, relevant authorities and emergency response services were involved in the search and rescue operation.
Ondo State Police also confirmed the plane crash in the Igbokoda area of the Ilaje Local Government Area. At the time of publication, the Air Force and the Ministry of Aviation had not reported any fatalities or injuries.
