Nigeria approves 30 new programmes for Federal University Dutse — Premium Times Nigeria

Nigeria’s National Universities Commission has approved the establishment of a faculty of law and the launch of 30 new undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at the Federal University Dutse. Full academic activities in the new fields are to begin in the 2026/2027 academic year.

As Premium Times Nigeria reports, the decision was set out in a letter dated September 11, signed by the commission’s Director of Academic Planning, Abubakar Girei. The document was addressed to the university’s vice-chancellor, Ahmad Gumel.

New fields of study

Among the new programmes in computer and digital sciences are artificial intelligence, data science and information systems. The faculty of law will offer a programme in common and Islamic law.

The list also includes medical laboratory science, public health, nutrition and dietetics, physiotherapy, radiography and optometry. The university has also received approval for programmes in physics, biology and mathematics education, educational management, early childhood and adult education, as well as Arabic and English languages.

Postgraduate programmes

Postgraduate programmes at the PGD, master’s and doctoral levels have been approved in forestry and wildlife management, accounting, treasury and financial management, banking and finance, and information technology. Master’s programmes in banking and finance and in accounting and finance are listed separately.

Ahmad Gumel described the decision as an important stage in expanding and modernising the institution’s academic offerings. According to him, the new fields are focused on technology, healthcare, legal education and science training. Admissions to the new programmes are expected as part of the 2026/2027 academic year admission campaign.
