Two police officers killed in ambush in Nigeria
In Nigeria's Benue State, two mobile police officers recently deployed to the Ailamo community were killed in an ambush. The attack occurred at around 6:00 p.m. on September 14, when the officers were escorting the head of the Ailamo police unit, who was returning from Makurdi.
As Premium Times Nigeria reports, Benue State police spokesperson Peter Aondongu confirmed the deaths of the two officers. Their names had not been disclosed at the time of publication.
Six killed in four days
Six police officers have now been killed in Ailamo over four days. Four mobile police officers and seven civilians were killed during an attack on the community on September 10.
According to police, the attackers entered Ailamo at around 6:12 p.m. and engaged in a firefight with law enforcement officers that lasted for several hours. Mobile police units, tactical groups and other police officers arrived at the scene. On the morning of September 11, security forces pushed the attackers back into the surrounding forest.

Those killed in the previous attack were Paul Ina, Mohammed Yusuf, Oge Ikechukwu and Ede Andrew. Their bodies, along with the bodies of seven civilians, were found during a search-and-rescue operation.
Statements from local residents
Residents told the publication that armed herders may have been involved in the latest ambush and, according to them, operated from forests and abandoned settlements in the Tombo district of the Logo Local Government Area. One resident, Tyolumun Ugande, stated that about 200 armed people entered the community during the previous attack, shooting at residents and setting houses on fire.
The Ailamo police station was upgraded to divisional headquarters status in August 2025 as part of the reorganization of the Benue State police. On September 15, state police also presented insurance checks to the families of officers who died in the line of duty.
