In Germany, nearly half of the population wants the Merz coalition dissolved

47% of Germans support the dissolution of the current governing coalition, which consists of the CDU/CSU and the SPD. Most of them are in favor of holding early parliamentary elections

This is according to the results of a YouGov poll commissioned by Welt am Sonntag.

According to the survey, 38% of respondents would like to see new elections to the Bundestag if the coalition were to collapse. Another 9% of respondents support the option of forming a minority government led by the CDU/CSU.

At the same time, only 30% of Germans are in favor of the current coalition continuing. Another 24% of survey participants were undecided or answered “I don’t know.”

According to pollsters, calls for new elections have begun to emerge in recent days even among rank-and-file CDU members.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who represents the CDU, had previously ruled out the possibility of leaving the coalition with the Social Democrats and forming a minority government.

At the same time, Merz stressed that he expects the SPD to show “greater willingness to compromise.”

Support for German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has fallen to a record low among all German chancellors since such polls began.

Merz has become the least popular leader among democracies.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that there is currently no alternative to NATO, and the alliance must be preserved and developed.
