Martin Reichardt, a member of the Bundestag from the far-right party “Alternative for Germany, has been criticized over a 2020 photo in which he makes a gesture resembling a Nazi salute.

The politician himself denies the allegations, claiming that it was part of a playful “knighting ceremony.” At the same time, two participants in the gathering stated that the gesture was indeed perceived as a Hitler salute, and that during the event, Reichardt was allegedly called “my Führer.” One of those present confirmed the authenticity of the photo but denied that such words were used.

The incident occurred on the eve of state elections in Saxony-Anhalt, where “Alternative for Germany” is leading in the polls.
