A scandal has erupted in Germany over the Greens' vote in support of the far right
A political scandal has erupted in the Saxon state parliament after a bill proposed by the Green Party was passed thanks to votes from the far-right Alternative for Germany and the far-left Alliance led by Sarah Wagenknecht.
DW reports on this.
The bill in question concerns support for small slaughterhouses in the region and was proposed by the opposition Alliance 90/The Greens faction.
The party stated that it had not planned to secure a majority with the help of far-right votes and called the situation a mistake.
Franziska Schubert, the leader of the Green Party faction in the Saxon parliament, stated that such a majority is unacceptable to the party, and that responsibility for the situation also lies with the Greens themselves, who did not foresee this outcome.
Following the incident, the party began discussing changes to parliamentary procedures to prevent similar situations in the future.
