Calls are being made in Germany to convene the National Security Council over the combat drone incident in Leipzig
The Green Party faction in the Bundestag has called for a meeting of the German National Security Council in response to the incident involving a drone carrying explosives at Leipzig/Halle Airport. Politicians view the incident as a serious threat to the country’s security.
Caterina Droege, the faction’s leader, stated that the National Security Council must convene immediately to discuss the situation and the necessary measures.
In such a serious situation, Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Defense Minister Boris Pistorius should also be present at the meeting, she said.
The coalition of Christian Democrats and Social Democrats established the National Security Council last year to ensure a rapid and effective response to crises and threats of any kind.
In addition to members of the federal government and security services, representatives of the federal states may also be invited to the meeting.
