US President Donald Trump did not attend the ceremony in New York, instead speaking at the headquarters of the US Department of Defense, the Pentagon, which was also a target of the attacks 25 years ago. He said that the United States would never forget these attacks and would continue the fight in connection with them.

Statement by a representative of victims' families
Former US presidents Joe Biden, Barack Obama, George W. Bush, and Bill Clinton attended the ceremony in Manhattan. Terry Strada, head of an organization of victims' relatives who lost a loved one in the attacks, sharply criticized Saudi Arabia over its role in the attacks. According to her, successive US administrations had protected the Saudis in this case.
YLE News notes that Strada's comments disrupted the traditionally non-political nature of the memorial ceremony. Most of the perpetrators of the attacks were Saudis, including the chief organizer Osama bin Laden. The United States maintains close relations with Saudi Arabia.
