In Pakistan, PTI steps up mobilization for Islamabad protest — Dawn
The northern Punjab chapter of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party has urged party officials to speed up the mobilization of activists for a protest in Islamabad scheduled for September 27. Participants in the rally will demand the release of Imran Khan, Dawn reports.
Claims of activists’ arrests
PTI said that over the past two days, police had arrested 119 prominent party workers and activists in six districts of the Rawalpindi division. In total, 225 of its supporters were arrested in the northern part of Punjab province, according to the party.
The party formed mobilization groups and urged activists to continue their work while avoiding arrest. Its information wing compiled a list of those arrested, while lawyers created a legal team to handle their related cases.
The lawyers handling these cases include PTI northern Punjab vice president Husnain Sambal, PTI Rawalpindi district chapter general secretary Aqeel Khan, and Punjab Bar Council member Malik Faisal.

Preparations for the rally
At a meeting between representatives of the PTI chapter in Rawalpindi and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, it was decided that activists from Rawalpindi would join a convoy heading to Islamabad from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
PTI district president Chaudhry Amir Afzal Khan announced the creation of five-member committees at the tehsil level for mobilization. According to him, the party distributed responsibilities among three groups of activists: if members of the first group are arrested, they are to be replaced by the following groups.
PTI also formed a 10-member committee that visits those arrested in prisons and follows their cases.
