Pakistan opens case after video of car dragging motorcycle — Dawn

In Rawalpindi, Pakistan, police have registered a case of reckless driving after a video spread on social media showing a car moving with a man on its bonnet and dragging a motorcycle along the road. As Dawn reports, the motorcycle was stuck under the car’s fender, while the man on the bonnet was holding onto the sides of the vehicle.

Details of the incident

According to the first information report, the case was registered at the New Town police station following a complaint by New Town traffic police inspector Waheed Ikhlaq. The document states that a check established that the video concerned an incident on September 25.

According to the report, at about 11:25 p.m., a black car collided with a white car, identified in the materials as a Honda Civic. After that, the driver of the white car ended up on the bonnet of the black car. The black car then ran over a motorcycle and dragged it along the road.

Drivers have not yet been identified

The case was opened under Sections 279 and 427 of the Pakistan Penal Code, concerning reckless driving on a public road and causing property damage. The identity of the driver of the white car has not been established, nor has that of the driver of the black car against whom the case was registered.

No arrests have been made in the case so far. In the complaint, the inspector described the incident as evidence of negligence and causing damage, and also stated that it involved a violation of the law and deliberate damage to a vehicle.
