Police officer killed in attack on patrol in Pakistan — Dawn
A law enforcement officer was killed and another sustained severe gunshot wounds during an attack on a police patrol in the Karak district of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Unknown armed men attacked the patrol late Tuesday evening in the area of Shatakay Dam.
Attack on the patrol
According to Dawn, the patrol was carrying out routine duty in the area under the jurisdiction of the Sabirabad police station. District police spokesperson Shaukat Khan said that Constable Zafran was killed in the shooting, while Constable Muhammad Imtiaz sustained severe injuries.
The body of the deceased officer and the injured law enforcement officer were taken to hospital. Following the attack, a large police contingent led by District Police Officer Imran Khan arrived at the scene.

Search for the attackers
According to the spokesperson, police cordoned off the area and launched a search for the attackers. Additional forces were deployed at various points to monitor the movement of suspicious individuals and prevent the attackers from escaping. The police representative said the attackers would be detained in the near future.
According to the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies, 54 terrorist attacks were recorded in the main part of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in August, excluding the attached districts, compared with 36 in July, an increase of 50%. The number of people killed in such attacks decreased from 69 to 44, while the number of injured fell from 96 to 70. In August, a police officer was also killed in the Karak district and six personnel were injured in an attack on a patrol vehicle using an improvised explosive device.
