One of two suspects in harassment of female constable detained in Pakistan

In Haripur, Pakistan, police have opened a criminal case against two men, including a police constable, on suspicion of harassing a female constable. One of the suspects, Ali Nisar, has been detained, while Constable Afzal remains at large, according to police, Dawn reports.

Constable's statement

Female Constable Amina Kausar, a resident of Mang village, serves at the Pind Muneem police post. She told police that Ali Nisar, a resident of Pind Muneem village, had been sending her unwanted messages on her phone and making unnecessary calls for several days.

According to Kausar, Nisar followed her on her way home, harassed her and threatened serious consequences over the non-payment of money. She also claims that her brother-in-law Afzal, who serves as a constable in Abbottabad, gave Nisar her phone number without permission.

Criminal case

Kausar accused Afzal of hacking and misusing her WhatsApp account. She claims that both suspects contacted her brothers and other relatives and spread information damaging to her reputation.

The woman asked her department to take legal action and ensure her protection. Khanpur police registered a case under Section 28-D of the Telegraph Act, as well as Sections 506 and 509 of the Pakistan Penal Code. The source states that Section 506 concerns criminal intimidation, while Section 509 concerns insulting a person's dignity or sexual harassment through words, gestures, sounds or physical conduct.
