School and college classes shortened by an hour in Pakistan’s Sindh province
The government of Pakistan’s Sindh province has reduced the duration of classes at public schools and colleges by one hour until further notice. The decision applies during the five-day school week, Dawn reports.
Sindh’s School Education and Literacy Department issued a circular under which the previously established class schedule is reduced by one hour. All other terms and directives of the previous document remain in force. Heads of educational institutions and local officials were instructed to ensure compliance with the updated schedule.
School schedule
At single-shift schools, until October 31, classes will run from 08:00 to 13:30 from Monday to Thursday and from 08:00 to 12:00 on Friday. From November 1 to March 31, the schedule will be 08:30–14:00 from Monday to Thursday and 08:30–12:30 on Friday.
At two-shift primary schools, until October 31, the morning shift will operate from 07:30 to 12:30 from Monday to Thursday and from 08:00 to 12:00 on Friday. The evening shift will run from 13:00 to 17:00 from Monday to Thursday and from 10:45 to 13:15 on Friday.
From November 1 to March 31, at such primary schools, the morning shift will take place from 08:30 to 14:30 from Monday to Thursday and from 08:30 to 10:30 on Friday. The evening shift will operate from 12:45 to 16:45 from Monday to Thursday and from 10:45 to 13:15 on Friday.

At two-shift primary, middle and high schools, until October 31, morning classes will be held from 07:30 to 12:30 from Monday to Thursday and from 07:30 to 10:30 on Friday. The evening shift will run from 13:00 to 17:00 from Monday to Thursday and from 10:45 to 12:15 on Friday.
From November 1 to March 31, the morning shift at these schools will operate from 08:00 to 12:45 from Monday to Thursday and from 08:00 to 10:30 on Friday. The evening shift has been set for 12:45–16:45 from Monday to Thursday and 10:45–13:15 on Friday.
New college schedule
The College Education Department introduced an hour-shortened schedule with immediate effect in a separate notification. During the morning shift, colleges will operate from 08:30 to 13:30 from Monday to Thursday and from 08:30 to 11:30 on Friday. Evening-shift classes will be held from 15:00 to 19:00 from Monday to Thursday and from 14:30 to 17:00 on Friday.
In August, Sindh authorities restored a five-day working week for schools and colleges, abolishing the six-day schedule introduced at the end of July.
