A plane was unable to land in Paris due to fireworks being set off

An EasyJet passenger plane was unable to land at Orly Airport on its first attempt due to fireworks near the runway.

Le Figaro reported this, citing a statement from the carrier dated April 6, 2026. The pilot of the flight from Venice noticed sparks and smoke on the evening of April 5, after which the captain decided to make a go-around and land on another runway.

The airline assured that passenger safety was not compromised and that the fireworks did not hit the aircraft. An investigation determined that the fireworks were set off by residents of the towns bordering the airport—Ablon-sur-Seine and Villeneuve-le-Roi. Due to the incident, one of the airport’s runways was closed for an hour and a half; law enforcement is currently identifying those responsible for the aviation security breach. The incident occurred amid heightened security measures at European airports due to threats to stability from Russia.

As a reminder, the Netherlands is preparing to ban fireworks starting in 2027.

In Germany, police seized 1.3 tons of illegal fireworks.

In Moldova, restrictions on the use of fireworks during the winter holidays are being discussed due to environmental and safety risks.
