A mobile internet outage occurred in St. Petersburg during the forum
On the first day of the International Economic Forum in St. Petersburg, widespread disruptions to mobile internet service were reported. Local residents attribute the outages to the event and the arrival of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Details of the widespread outage
As noted by the Central Communications Center, city residents are experiencing widespread inability to access websites, mobile apps are not working, and resources from the so-called “whitelists” are functioning erratically.
With every passing hour, the number of complaints about connectivity issues is only increasing.
Residents themselves expect that full mobile internet service will not be available for at least another three days.
"In other words, for the sake of the Russian dictator’s security, mobile internet is being shut down for the entire city right in the middle of the year’s main ‘economic’ event," the CPD notes.
A facade for foreigners and the reality
The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) is the Kremlin’s main “image showcase” for foreign guests. The Russian authorities have been pouring colossal budget resources into it for years.
"Forum guests will see the reality of a country facing the consequences of waging an aggressive war against Ukraine," the Center for Countering Disinformation emphasized.
