Flooding situation stabilizes in Pärnu, Estonia
In the Estonian city of Pärnu, after heavy rainfall caused flooding of streets, roads and buildings, city authorities reported that the situation had been brought under control. Morning precipitation overloaded the sewer system: the amount exceeded 100 millimeters and in some places reached more than 120 millimeters, ERR News reports.
Water level is falling
City authorities noted that the water level in Pärnu is falling, although water continues to flow in from the Rääma bog. Rescue Department pumps and city systems are currently coping with the situation. The Rescue Department will decide when to stop pumping out water.
The condition of flooded areas is constantly monitored by employees of the Pärnu city government, the Pärnu Vesi water utility, the Rescue Department and the Estonian Rescue Association. Rescue units from various regions of Estonia have also arrived to assist the city, while specialists provided up-to-date data and expert support for decision-making.
Inspection of critical areas
Pärnu Deputy Mayor Sander Kilk said that the intense rainfall also affected the neighboring Tori municipality. The previous evening, following a meeting at the Rescue Department's command center, he and the head of Tori municipality inspected the most critical areas in Pärnu and Tori municipality.

According to Kilk, at the peak of the severe weather, both local governments focused on helping their own residents. After the situation stabilized, they were able to assess conditions in the neighboring municipality and exchange experience.
Temporary traffic changes
Temporary changes to traffic arrangements remain in effect in Pärnu. Road users are asked to be attentive, follow road signs and, where possible, avoid areas where flooding still hampers travel. The traffic scheme may change, and roads will be opened as soon as possible.
City authorities also urged residents to check whether their neighbors, acquaintances and elderly people need assistance. In the event of a threat to life or health, they should call 112.
