In the city of Dongducheon in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, a man in his 60s was sentenced to four years in prison for robbery that caused bodily injuries to his longtime acquaintance. This was reported by The Korea Herald, citing court officials.
Attack at an acquaintance’s home
The Uijeongbu District Court found the man guilty of robbery causing bodily injury. The attack occurred on July 6 at the victim’s home in Dongducheon. The victim, like the convicted man, was in his 60s.
According to the court, the defendant was unemployed and in difficult financial circumstances. He had previously repeatedly entered his acquaintance’s home without permission to steal food, using a key he had taken earlier.

Circumstances and sentence
At around 8:50 p.m. on July 6, the homeowner returned home and found the man inside. According to the court, he threatened the victim with a knife, attacked him and took 150,000 won — about $110. The victim required two weeks of treatment.
The court noted that the convicted man betrayed the trust of a person he had known for 15 years. The court also stated that after he was caught stealing food, he could have apologized, but instead committed robbery after seeing the victim’s wallet.
In determining the sentence, the court took into account the small amount stolen, the man’s financial difficulties and his remorse. At the same time, the court stressed that the victim had not forgiven the attacker and therefore imposed a substantial sentence.
