Up to 1,200 applicants in South Korea unable to submit applications due to system outage
South Korea’s Ministry of Education and the Korean Council for University Education will provide relief to applicants who were unable to complete university applications due to a system outage shortly before the deadline. As The Korea Herald reports, the problem may have affected up to 1,200 applicants.
Outage at the end of the application period
According to the Ministry of Education, 2.61 million applications were submitted during the early university admissions round. The deadline was at 18:00 on Friday.
The system outage at the Uway Apply agency began at around 17:50 and lasted until approximately 18:20. The agency extended the deadline until 19:00, but some applicants said they had not received notification of the extension.
Under an exceptional procedure, applicants may be allowed to complete their applications if they prove that they were unable to do so because of the technical problem. Those who applied to other universities through another agency because of the outage may also qualify for relief.

Review of server records
Eligibility for resubmission will be determined based on server records. They must confirm whether an applicant filled out a form, saved it or attempted to submit it, as well as whether they attempted to make a payment before 18:00.
Uway Apply will accept requests regarding such cases until 18:00 on Wednesday. Applicants offered the opportunity to resubmit their applications will be able to do so until 22:00 on the same day.
The Ministry of Education and the Korean Council for University Education plan to thoroughly examine the causes and scope of the Uway Apply system outage. If necessary, they will consider a criminal investigation or other legal action, as well as measures to prevent similar cases in the future.
