Imitation weapon found at a Melbourne primary school

At Princes Hill Primary School in Melbourne, Australia, two students found an imitation firearm sealed in a plastic bag. The item was discovered on the playground at around 12:30 the previous day.

Police seized the item

As ABC News Australia reports, school staff informed parents that police had been called after a bag containing a weapon was found at the rear of the school grounds. Officers arrived at the school and seized the item.

A Victoria Police spokesperson said the school had received no threats and that no one was injured. Police assessed the item as an imitation weapon.

Investigation continues

The administration of Princes Hill Primary School assured parents that there had been no risk to students or staff during the incident. The school thanked teachers and students for their prompt and professional response to the discovery.

Detectives from Yarra's Criminal Investigation Unit are determining how the item ended up on school grounds. Anyone with information was urged to contact Crime Stoppers or submit a report online.
