In Poland, prosecutors have filed charges against a 31-year-old Ukrainian citizen suspected of a knife attack at a monastery in Jarosław. If found guilty, he could face life imprisonment.
The prosecutor’s office in Przemyśl has formally charged Ukrainian citizen Igor M. According to the investigation, the 31-year-old man carried out a knife attack on the grounds of a Benedictine nuns’ monastery in the city of Jarosław in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship.
The suspect is charged with the murder of a priest, attempted murder, and causing serious bodily injury. He faces life imprisonment for his actions.
The suspect is currently in police custody. His interrogation and other procedural actions are being delayed due to his health condition. Investigators are awaiting medical reports that will determine whether he is fit to participate in investigative proceedings.
In total, five people were injured in the attack—three clergymen and two laypeople. One of the wounded priests, Stanislav Zboynovich, died in the hospital from his injuries.
Another injured priest remains in serious but stable condition after undergoing two surgeries. The third priest has already been discharged from the hospital. The lives of the two injured laypeople are not currently in danger.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attack by a Ukrainian citizen on the Benedictine abbey in the Polish city of Jarosław, which resulted in the death of a priest and injuries to four other people.
The attack took place on the morning of September 24 on the grounds of the Jarosław Abbey on Benedyktyńska Street. Around 9:30 a.m., police received a report of a knife attack. According to preliminary information from the Polish police, a 31-year-old Ukrainian citizen stabbed four men and one woman. All of the victims were taken to the hospital. Three men sustained serious injuries, and the fourth died at the hospital.
