US-India trade talks have reached a limit — Cyprus Mail
In India, trade negotiations with the United States have reached a limit beyond which further concessions would be very difficult for both sides. Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said this at an event in New Delhi.
Opportunities for compromise
According to Sitharaman, both countries could move further if there were room to do so. At the same time, she stressed that negotiations on the trade agreement are continuing and are tense.
As Cyprus Mail reports, US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said last week that an agreement was not yet close. This came after his meeting with Indian Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal in the United States.

Negotiations since 2025
Washington and New Delhi have been negotiating a trade agreement since February 2025. The sides seek to deepen economic ties and settle longstanding market access issues.
Sitharaman also said that the trade balance between the countries favors India, while Washington has a deficit. According to her, the United States will seek to reduce this imbalance. Reuters previously reported that India is seeking more favorable terms in an agreement with the United States.
