In Poland, equipment was set on fire near a nuclear power plant construction site; police confirmed it was an act of sabotage
A fire broke out at a construction site near the future nuclear power plant in Słaśzewo, Poland. Police confirmed that the equipment on site was deliberately set on fire. Law enforcement officials are already working to identify those responsible, according to RMF24.
Police in the town of Wejherowo, Poland, stated that the fire, which broke out on equipment during road reconstruction work leading to the future nuclear power plant in Słaśzewo in the Pomeranian Voivodeship, was the result of arson. According to police spokesperson Anetta Potrykus, a fire safety expert visited the site the day after the incident and confirmed the preliminary findings of the investigation. As a result of the fire, an asphalt paver, an excavator, a loader, and two road rollers were completely destroyed.
Law enforcement officials note that the investigation is ongoing, and the police are conducting intensive efforts to identify the person or persons who may be involved in the arson. Slaishchevo Mayor Michal Milčarek reported that the destroyed equipment was working on the very section of the road leading to the future nuclear power plant. He also added that this is not the only incident in the village in recent days.
According to him, several other suspicious incidents occurred there over the weekend: unknown individuals threw stones at a security guard’s booth near the Bibrowski Canal and set fire to a portable toilet on Morska Street. The police are investigating whether these incidents may be connected.
The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the absence of a meeting between French President Emmanuel Macron and Polish President Karol Nawrocki was a decision made by the French side.
