In Poland, the alliance between Tusk and the Left has a chance of securing a parliamentary majority

In Poland, the alliance between Tusk and the Left has a chance of securing a parliamentary majority

If parliamentary elections were held in Poland in the near future, Donald Tusk’s “Civic Coalition,” together with “The Left,” could secure enough votes to form a majority, albeit a somewhat unstable one.

This is according to the latest public opinion poll by IBRiS commissioned by Rzeczpospolita.

If elections were held in Poland this coming Sunday, the Civic Coalition would receive 32% of the vote. In second place are the conservative “Law and Justice” party with 23.2%, and in third place is the far-right “Confederation” with 12%. Both have lost more than one percentage point of support compared to the previous poll.

The Left, with 8.7%, and the far-right Confederation of the Polish Crown, with 7.9%, also clear the electoral threshold.

According to estimates, with this distribution of votes, Tusk’s party and “The Left” would have a chance to form a liberal government on their own—though it would be a majority with a narrow margin.

Tusk announced the release of three people as part of an exchange with Belarus.

On April 28, Poland and Belarus carried out a prisoner exchange on a “five-for-five” basis.

Russian archaeologist Alexander Butyagin, who was detained in Warsaw at Ukraine’s request, was released as part of the exchange. Butyagin is known for his participation in illegal archaeological excavations in occupied Crimea and subsequent trips to European countries.
