A record 84 metric tons of drugs were seized in Poland over the past six months
In the first half of 2026, Polish law enforcement agencies seized 84 metric tons of drugs—nearly three times as much as in all of 2025.
Against this backdrop, experts say the country is increasingly transforming from a transit nation into one of Europe’s largest producers of synthetic drugs.
According to the Central Bureau of Police Investigations, 51 underground laboratories have been dismantled in Poland since the beginning of the year, compared to 58 for the entire previous year. Most of the seized drugs were manufactured directly within the country. Experts attribute this trend to rising demand and the expanding capabilities of criminal groups.
Earlier, Europol conducted a large-scale international operation against a drug production network in Poland, Ukraine, and Moldova. During the operation, 36 laboratories were dismantled, over 100 suspects were arrested, and large quantities of drugs and precursors were seized.

In the Ivano-Frankivsk region, law enforcement officers exposed a married couple who had organized a large-scale distribution of drugs and psychotropic substances, concealing them in children’s books, clothing, and boxes that had previously contained electronics.
French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu has instructed ministers to organize random drug tests among civil servants.
