In Poland, eight men beat three Ukrainians after a lecture about Volhynia
In Radom, Poland, eight men brutally beat three 20-year-old Ukrainians following an argument about their origins and the Volhynia tragedy. One of the attackers, a 34-year-old resident of Lublin, stated that he wanted to “teach them a lesson about Volhynia” and has already been charged.
The incident occurred on August 2 between 5:00 and 6:00 a.m. on Malczewski Street in Radom. The attack came to light only a few days later.
Tomasz G., a 34-year-old resident of Lublin, had come to Radom for a wedding and, after the celebration, began wandering around the city. On the street, he met three 20-year-old Ukrainians and struck up a conversation with them about their origins.
The men did not like his behavior. According to them, the Polish man wanted a lecture on the Volhynia tragedy.
At that moment, the drunk Polish man called out to three or four strangers who were crossing the street for help and told them that there were Ukrainians in front of them. They reacted instantly.
“They reacted very spontaneously to this, and the attack began,” said Cezary Oltarzewski, a prosecutor with the Radom District Prosecutor’s Office.
Several more men later joined the beating, bringing the total number of attackers to eight. The Ukrainians sustained head and facial injuries and were examined by forensic doctors.
“He ordered a taxi and left as if nothing had happened,” the prosecutor told Gazeta Wyborcza about Tomasz G.’s behavior after the attack.
The police managed to identify the main instigator of the fight. He was taken to the prosecutor’s office.
The man admitted his guilt and said that he was intoxicated at the time of the attack. He was placed under police supervision. The perpetrator faces up to five years in prison.
The police are continuing to search for the remaining assailants and are reviewing city surveillance footage.
