Two suspects have been detained in Poland on espionage charges

In Poland, officers from the Internal Security Agency (ABW) detained two men suspected of acting on behalf of foreign intelligence services. Among those detained are a 19-year-old Belarusian citizen and a 44-year-old Polish citizen. Law enforcement officials are conducting an investigation to establish all the circumstances of the alleged espionage activities.

According to the investigation, the men were acting on behalf of Belarusian intelligence and were paid for their services.

As determined by Polish intelligence agencies, they participated in events organized in Warsaw by the Belarusian minority, where they secretly photographed and videotaped the participants.

The collected materials were sent to Belarus, where they were used by the security services of Alexander Lukashenko’s regime and by state propaganda.

By court order, the 19-year-old Belarusian was remanded in custody for three months. As for the Polish citizen, preventive measures were imposed in the form of passport confiscation, a ban on leaving the country, and police supervision.

Dobrzyński stated that this is the next stage of the investigation being conducted by the ABW department in Rzeszów in cooperation with the National Prosecutor’s Office in Lublin.

According to him, in November of last year, as part of the same criminal proceeding, ABW officers detained three Belarusian citizens and two Ukrainian citizens.

The spokesperson for the Minister-Coordinator of Polish Special Services emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and did not rule out further detentions.

This was reported on social media platform X by Jacek Dobrzyński, spokesperson for the Minister-Coordinator of Polish Special Services.
