In Port Augusta, Australia, the Edge Early Learning child care center was closed for two weeks after an incident that resulted in a child attending the facility being taken to hospital. According to ABC News Australia, the incident occurred on Thursday, September 3.

Education Standards Board decision

The Education Standards Board (ESB) found that the facility’s operator had failed to fulfill its duty to protect children from harm and hazards. The center is to remain closed until 6:30 p.m. on Monday, September 21.

ABC News Australia reported that the ESB also ordered the facility to inform the families of all enrolled children in writing about the incident and the board’s subsequent directives.

Investigation and staff training

Edge Early Learning must conduct an investigation into the incident. In addition, the facility must provide independent training for all employees, including on emergency response. ABC News Australia reported that it had contacted Edge Early Learning for comment.
