In Russia, film studios have been issued a guide on traditional family values

Recommendations have been prepared for Russian filmmakers on how to create films and other content about the family in accordance with so-called “traditional spiritual and moral values.”

According to RBC, the document was drafted by the State Duma Committee on Information Policy. It recommends portraying the family as a “bulwark of stability” and avoiding storylines in which family breakdown, infidelity, or abandoning children might appear appealing to viewers.

Separately, the authors advise fostering a positive attitude toward parenthood, emphasizing that children allegedly do not restrict a person’s freedom but rather create “a new level of life.”

The recommendations are technically voluntary, but they were developed as part of the implementation of Vladimir Putin’s decree on preserving and strengthening “traditional Russian spiritual and moral values.”

Russian cinema is already subject to heightened censorship: the country bans content that the authorities deem to “discredit traditional values” and has also restricted “propaganda” for LGBT issues and drugs.

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has claimed that Russians supposedly possess a “winner’s genetic code.”

Tokyo plans to consider countermeasures following Russian dictator Vladimir Putin’s visit to one of the Kuril Islands. Japan considers the archipelago its own territory, which Russia also claims.
